It’s that time of the year again: the leaves on the trees are starting to change colour, the weather is slowly getting cooler and the days are getting shorter. For many, this time of the year can bring some dread and even angst. But it doesn’t have to be so. There are ways to make your transition from Summer to Fall smooth and even enjoyable. Today, I’m sharing with you my top 7 Tips to Transition From Summer to Fall with More Ease.
Even though we have started to lose some natural daylight and it’s getting colder outside, this doesn’t mean that you should let it bring you down. In fact, there are many ways to make this transition smoother and even enjoyable. Today, I want to share with you some of my favourite ways to prepare your mind and body for the colder season. Even the colder seasons can be enjoyed ;).
Here are:
7 Tips to Transition From Summer to Fall With More Ease:
1. Clear Out The Old
Just as many people like to do a big “Spring” cleanup, you can do exactly the same as you transition from Summer to Fall. Get rid of anything that no longer serves you, donate some old items, or put away all of your Summer necessities and get your closet ready for colder temperatures. Time to bring back the cozy sweaters, fuzzy blankets and sweat pants! I don’t know for you but there is something so fun about chilling at home in comfy sweats and fluffy slippers ;).
2. Stock Your Kitchen with Spices
As you’ve probably notice before, as soon as Fall makes a return, it’s the season for pumpkin spice lattes and comforting warm soups and stews. There is a reason why we start craving spicy foods when the weather get cold. Spicy foods keep us warm and comfort us. So make sure to stock up your kitchen in this warming spices: turmeric, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, coriander, cumin, curry, etc. Not only are these spices super tasty, most of them are also anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and immune-boosting for your body!
3. Do a Fall Reset
Again, just as most people like to do a Spring detox, doing a little Fall reset can be very helpful in preparing your body, mind and spirit for the colder months ahead. If you’re curious about what a Fall reset includes exactly: feel free to join the mini 5-Day Fall Reset Challenge I created for my clients, right here > http://bit.ly/2xLfP4p. It’s completely free and it’s a very gentle way to reboot your health and ease into the cold seasons ;).
4. Load Up On Root Veggies
Eating with the seasons is an excellent way to guarantee that your body gets all of the nutrients it needs all year long! Indeed, in the Fall, as root veggies are plentiful it’s the perfect time to indulge in them. Not only are root vegetable very grounding and comforting but they are also loaded with minerals and vitamins that will boost your immune system throughout the colder months. Finally, root veggies can help satisfy your sweet cravings without having to rely on processed sugars which are a sure way to gain weight, get sick and overburden your liver.
5. Ditch Sugar
I know that it might be very tempting to satisfy your sweet cravings with tons of refined sugar and sweet treats; but trust me when I say this would not serve you best. Indeed, eating too much sugars actually suppresses your immunity and makes you way more prone to getting sick; especially at this time of the year when there are so many viral bugs around us. Do yourself a big favour and try to reduce your intake in processed and refined sweets as much as possible. I have a few articles on this topic: HERE and HERE.
But if you need more help and guidance in getting your sweet tooth and constant sugar cravings under control: Try my 10-day sugar detox program and guide below:
6. Keep It Moving
It might be very tempting to stay inside all day and avoid any form of movement, but you’d be doing yourself a major dis-service! Your body needs just as much movement during the colder months as it does when it’s warmer out. You need to keep it moving in order to boost your immune system, move your lymph (which removes toxins from the blood), promote a healthy circulation within your body and also keep you happy and energized. So don’t be afraid of joining a new dancing class, spending some time indoors doing yoga or simply getting outside and enjoying Nature (even if it’s colder out). Dress accordingly and you will be just fine ;).
7. Switch Up Your Skincare
Fall is a great time to switch things up with your skincare routine as well. As the weather is getting colder and drier outside, now is the perfect time to give your skin and hair some extra TLC with warming oil massages, deep conditioning treatments and long and relaxing baths. And if your skin tends to get very dry, try this super easy DIY project at home for a very nourishing Whipped Body Butter. Check the video and recipe right: HERE.
