Last night, I was craving something sweet and chocolatey. I didn’t really feel like my regular chocolate pudding or one of my other favourite desserts: chocolate “ice cream” either. So I quickly whipped up a chocolate “milkshake” instead. But don’t be mistaken, this was no regular milkshake at all. It was creamy, smooth and had a thicker consistency than your regular milkshake. The texture was right in between the regular chocolate milkshake and the thick smoothie. This was so decadently delicious that I had to come here and share the recipe with you all.
Its the perfect guilt-free, sugar-free and dairy-free treat, dessert, snack or even breakfast if you want ;). I am sure you will love it and it will quickly become one of your favourite too.
So without further ado, here is what you need for the recipe.
Creamy Chocolate “Milkshake” with Coconut Cream Floater
Ingredients:
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 Tbsp chia seeds (this is what will give it that thicker consistency)
- 1 tsp of cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp of raw cacao powder
- Optional: 1 tsp of raw honey or maple syrup if you need a little extra sweetness.
For the toppings:
- 1 Tbsp of coconut “cream”
Simply place a can of full-fat coconut milk in the fridge overnight and simply scoop up the top creamy part that will have separated from the coconut water- place the creamy part of the coconut milk in a food processor or blender and blend for a few seconds with some vanilla extract. Tadaa, now you’ve got yourself some dairy-free whipped coconut “cream” :)) Choose an organic and BPA-free brand such as Native Forest.
- 1 tsp of raw cacao nibs or anything else you’d like.
Instructions:
Place all of the “milkshake” ingredients in a high-powered blender and blend everything up for a few minutes until you have achieved a nice and creamy smooth consistency. Pour into a glass and place it in the fridge for 5-10 minutes so that the blended chia seeds can thicken up the “milkshake” a little.
Then simply remove from the fridge and add your toppings and coconut cream “floater”.
That’s it! This will be the perfect treat during warm summer nights and you can easily customize this deliciousness to your liking by trying out different flavours for your shake :).
Enjoy!
