As most of you know by now, I am a firm believer in achieving health, vitality, and beauty from the inside out. Using the powers of good nutrition, a healthy lifestyle and mindset, you can truly create miracles in how you feel and look. I have seen it in my own personal life, but also in the lives of my clients, friends and family members. And so this brings me to the topic of natural beauty once more. More specifically, 5 foods that are very potent in helping your skin thrive and glow from the inside out. This is why I would highly recommend that you: Eat These 5 Foods Every Day For Beautiful Skin. 

I have spoken about my favourite natural beauty tips to get glowing skin before, but in this article I will be diving a little bit deeper into one of the pillars of beauty: your nutrition.

I am sure you have heard the saying: “You are what you eat” before . Well this rings even more true when it comes to your skin. Indeed, your skin is a great reflection of the internal state of your body’s health. Whenever you notice redness on your skin, pimples, or dullness, these are all signs that your body is trying to talk to you about a bigger issue internally.

Instead of addressing these symptoms superficially (via the application of topical treatments & creams), I always dive deeper with my clients and investigate what might be going on with their nutrition, stress levels, hormones, digestive system, etc.

Changing their nutrition is often more than enough to start seeing improvement in the look and feel of their skin.


Here are some of the nutritional tips I always recommend for the health of the skin:

  • Ditch the processed sugar, processed and fried foods (check out my guide on how to get there in 10 days)
  • Increase your water intake to 2 to 3 L per day (so important to flush out toxins)
  • Consume probiotic-rich foods daily (e.g. sauerkraut, kefir, tempeh, miso, …)
  • Reduce your alcohol and caffeine consumption
  • Eat a diet rich in whole foods, rich in phytonutrients & fibers

This last tip leads me to the topic of today’s article. We all know that eating a diet rich in fresh veggies and fruits is extremely beneficial for one’s health and one’s skin. This is why I would strongly encourage you to:

1. Dark Leafy Greens

This is by far one of the most effective ways to increase your intake in vitamin A, C, and K ( all 3 are excellent for the skin),  and minerals such as, calcium, magnesium and iron. Plus, they are rich in fibers, which are also essential for healthy digestion (which is key to glowing skin & health). Make sure that you consume at least 2 cups of fresh dark leafy greens every day.

2. Lemon

Don’t underestimate the health benefits of consuming some lemon or lime on a daily basis. This fruit is loaded with vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant and the precursor for collagen. Collagen boosts your skin’s natural elasticity and helps to make your skin firmer.

Try: squeezing 1/2 fresh lemon into some warm water in the morning or add some to your smoothies and salad dressings. That’s an easy way to guarantee that you consume some lemon on a daily basis.

3. Berries

Berries such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or even black berries are another great way to get beautiful skin naturally. Especially dark berries, are extremely rich in a powerful group of antioxidants, called anthocyanins. These are excellent to protect your skin against free radicals, which tend to damage collagen and promote premature aging. Plus, berries are also rich in vitamin C, which also protects your skin against free radical damage and boost collagen synthesis.

Try: adding fresh berries into your salads, having them as your go-to snack, or as toppings on top of your smoothies. To enjoy berries all year-long, buy them frozen or freeze them when they are in season. Getting them organic is always best (to avoid pesticides).

4. Avocado

Avocados are definitely one of my favourite fruits (yes, it’s a fruit ;)). Not only are they rich in healthy fats, fibers, protein and water; but they are also a great source of vitamin C and vitamin E – 2 great antioxidants that help fight off free radicals damage. Avocado will also moisturize your skin from the inside out due to its healthy fats content.

Try: some avocados into your salads, smoothies, on your toasts, even as a healthy desserts!

5. Chia Seeds

Don’t be fooled by the size of these powerful seeds. They are jam-packed with nutrition. I have talked about it extensively in: this post. When it comes to your skin, chia seeds are great because they are rich in omega-3s, a healthy fat that will help reduce the inflammation within your body and in your skin. Omega-3 fatty acids are also essential to moisturize your skin and protect it against free radicals damage (due to their vitamin C content). You only really need to consume 1 Tbsp per day to start seeing positive health benefits.

Try: adding chia seeds into your smoothies, salads or create this delicious dessert with them (one of my favourite way to consume them ;)).

Of course, there are so many other foods that are excellent for the skin (e.g. walnuts, cabbage, bell peppers, sweet potatoes, etc), but in today’s post, I chose to focus on 5 powerful foods to get you that beautiful skin from the inside out.
