THIS right here, ladies and gents, is just the BEST chocolate mousse recipe ever!! I know, I know I might be slightly biased but seriously though, jokes aside, this is really the best chocolate pudding you will ever make in under 10 minutes that is both nutritious and gentle on your body (i.e. not causing you to bloat or feel terrible once you are done indulging…).
Every time I crave something sweet and chocolatey (in which case, I usually need to eat something fitting that description right away :p), I always ALWAYS revisit this recipe. I have made SO many variations of this chocolate mousse, but the main ingredients always remain the same. Why change something that works so perfectly right?
This recipe will yield a rich, creamy, and naturally sweet mousse that will satisfy any and all of your chocolate cravings. Believe me: it is satisfaction GUARANTEED! (Can you tell how excited I am? It’s because I am eating this deliciously vibrant treat right now as I type this post…and I must confess good nutritious food always makes me a little hyper :p).
Alright, let’s make this treat, already! 😉
You will only need a couple of ingredients for this dessert and it should be ready in 5-10 minutes. Another reason why this is just the BEST chocolate mousse recipe ever!
Also, did I mention the amazingly wholesome ingredients in this recipe?
The avocado is definitely the star of the show tonight and for all those of you who might cringe at the thought of eating avocado in a dessert, please please please, give this one a go before you judge. You will never look back. I actually learned to love avocados even more once I started consuming them in sweet treats like this one. So trust me, just give it a try. This delicious fruit will surprise you and your body will thank you for it. Here is why:
The health benefits of avocado:
The avocado, despite its dark green color, is actually known to contain a spectacular amount of carotenoids (such as beta-carotene and lutein), which, as powerful antioxidants, are great for their anti-inflammatory properties. The avocado is also a rich source of beneficial dietary fiber, which helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes a healthy digestion and a healthy cardiovascular system. Finally, for those of you who think avocado contains too much fat, please be aware that not all fat is bad. The fat contained in the avocado is actually a healthy type of fat. Over half of its fat content is provided in the form of oleic acid (a monounsaturated fat also present in olives). This type of fat has been shown to help reduce your risk of heart disease and it will also help your body assimilate fat-soluble nutrients, such as vitamins A, D, E and K. Plus, the fat in the avocado also contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are also anti-inflammatory. So, as you can see, this fruit has been greatly underestimated and misunderstood.
Now that we know what avocados are good for, let’s make this recipe, shall we?
The Best Chocolate Mousse
Ingredients: (Makes 1 serving)
- 1/2 avocado (or full avocado if making it for 2)
- 1 Tbsp of raw cacao powder
- 1 Tbsp of chia seeds (to make it thicker)
- 1 tsp of raw honey (coconut nectar or maple syrup are two other great options)
- 1-2 Tbsp of almond milk (or water)
- 1 tsp of cinnamon or cardamon
- Optional: 1 banana (what can I say? I’m a sucker for bananas :p)
- Optional: 1 Tbsp of raw buckwheat groats (for an added crunch!)
- Optional: 1 Tbsp of shredded coconut to garnish on top
Instructions:
Simply place all of the ingredients into a food processor or high-powered blender and mix until you achieve a nice and creamy consistency.
Note: Sometimes I like to add a frozen banana to transform this sweet treat into a frozen dessert, but you can always place your mixture into the freezer for a few minutes (3-5 min) to enjoy a chilled (not frozen) version of this treat.
Note 2: You can customize this treat in a lot of ways but I like to garnish it with chopped strawberries, nuts, seeds, coconut flakes, goji berries, or raw cacao nibs.
The possibilities are endless, so have fun with it :).
That’s it. A really satisfying yet super quick and easy way to make a nutritious dessert. What did I tell you about having your cake and eating it too? ;).
Enjoy!
